St John Ambulance ACT provides a range of quality first aid training to the public and businesses within Canberra. The training gives participants the skills, knowledge and confidence to successfully treat common injuries and possibly save a life.

Their first aid training courses include:

  • Provide First Aid (previously known as Senior First Aid), teaching essential skills to help an ill or injured person at work or in the home
  • CPR, teaching skills needed to revive someone who is unconscious and not breathing normally using Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Defibrillation
  • Asthma and Anaphylaxis in the Workplace, teaching skills to recognise and respond to asthmatic or anaphylactic emergencies (including the use of inhalers and adrenaline auto-injectors)

Belconnen Community Service - Community Transport

Belconnen Community Service - Community Transport

Belconnen Community Service (BCS) Community Transport is an ACT wide door-to-door transport service with a focus on promoting participants’ independence and community involvement. The service is available for people who are ageing, recovering from a medical condition or living with disability, and who live independently in the community (carers of participants may also use the service).

BCS Community Transport run two services:

  • Community Cars, which runs 7 days per week from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and provides transport to medical and paramedical appointments, shopping trips and social and recreational activities
  • Community Bus, which operates Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and focuses on transport for group outings and social and recreational activities

Rosella Occupational Therapy

Rosella Occupational Therapy are experienced in providing services to older people; people with dementia, chronic disease (heart, lung, circulation issues), neurological conditions and orthopaedic conditions (e.g. after hip replacement, broken bone); and people with severe mental health conditions. They are a home visiting service for the ACT and local NSW areas and work closely with community services and local equipment supply and building businesses.

Rosella Occupational Therapy services include:

  • Designing home modifications e.g. rails, ramps, bathroom access
  • Prescribing assistive equipment and aids e.g. walkers, kitchen tools, hospital beds
  • Recommending ways to reduce fall risks
  • Devising safer or easier ways to do things e.g. cooking, gardening, dressing
  • Producing living skills development programs
  • Providing advice about on support needs
  • Referrals to other services as required
